Downloadable File Formats

Below is an example of the available download types:

FPN-##C#.EXE	(self-extracting file)
FPN-current.exe	(self-extracting file, same as FPN##C#.EXE)
FPNX##C#.EXE	(self-installing version)
FPNXcurrent.exe	(self-installing version, same as FPNX##C#.EXE)

In the above examples, ## represents the release number and # represents the revision of that release. The release number doesn't actually reflect the version number. For example, version 4.0 of Command AntiVirus for NetWare download filename is FPN-00C0.EXE.

Self-extracting files should be used if you wish to make a disk set, or modify the installation options. For default installations which will be done from the same computer the file has been downloaded to, use the self-installing version.

How to Extract the Downloaded File

Using Explorer, double-click on the downloaded file. This will execute the file and extract it to the directory where it is located. An MS-DOS window will open and you will be requested to confirm extraction of the file (answer yes). Seven files are created including:

ONEDISK.BAT	batch file used to create a single directory from which to run SETUP.EXE
4DISK.BAT	batch file used to create 4 installation disks (1.44Mb)
FPDISK-1.EXE	disk 1 image file, self-extracting PKzip format
FPDISK-2.EXE	disk 2 image file, self-extracting PKzip format
FPDISK-3.EXE	disk 3 image file, self-extracting PKzip format
FPDISK-4.EXE	disk 4 image file, self-extracting PKzip format
INSTALL.DOC	small ASCII file with instructions on creating disks

How to Create an Install Directory

ONEDISK.BAT will extract each of the disk image files to a single directory from which you can run the installation program SETUP.EXE. ONEDISK.BAT requires a parameter value which will be the destination drive and directory where the files will be extracted:

ONEDISK.BAT S:\INSTALL\CSAVNW

The example above will extract the file set to S:\INSTALL\CSAVNW. If the directory does not exist, it will be created.

How to Create Installation Disks forCommand AntiVirus with F-PROT Professional for NetWare

4DISK.BAT will create an installable set of floppy disks. 4DISK.BAT requires a parameter value which will be the destination drive where the files will be extracted. You will need 4 formatted, empty 1.44Mb floppy disks. To make a set of installable floppies using Drive A, simply run:

4DISK.BAT A:

You will be prompted to insert Disk #1 in Drive A. When the files necessary for the first disk have been copied, you will be prompted to enter Disk 2, etc. until the disk set is completed. The SETUP.EXE file necessary for installation will be found on Disk 1 of this newly created disk set.

How to install Command AntiVirus with F-PROT Professional for NetWare

Installation can be accomplished either through Windows or at the file server console. Please do not attempt simply to copy the files to the server.

Windows

Running Setup from Windows at a workstation allows you to install the NLM's to the server and the Windows program, F-PROT Professional for NetWare Administration, to the server or workstation.

Insert disk #1 of the installation diskettes into floppy drive A: on a workstation.

1. From the workstation, log in to the server with an ID which has full rights to SYS:SYSTEM and to the directory where FPN Administration is to be placed. This will allow the installation routine to create sub-directories and copy files to the correct locations.
2. Type:

   A:\SETUP [ENTER] (or click OK)

3. Click "NEXT" and then select the components you wish to install:
   

   Command AntiVirus Server Files	NetWare NLMs and supporting files
   Command AntiVirus Client Files	Command AntiVirus Administration program
   AlertTrack Server Files	AlertTrack alert module
   AlertTrack Client Files	AlertTrack Management Console

    

4. Setup will select a default drive to install to by looking for a root or system directory containing NLMs. You may choose any drive on the SYS:volume. When you accept the selected drive, setup will create an F-PROT sub-directory under the specified directory, and the F-PROT files will be copied to the new directory. The F-PROT.NLM, VSENGINE.NLM, TTCONFIG.NLM and the F-DELAY.NLM will be placed in the specified directory. Select "Continue" to install F-PROT Professional for NetWare or "Change drive" to select a different drive.
5. You must now go to the file server to load F-PROT. Simply type:

   LOAD F-PROT

The first time you load FPN the "Daily" scan will be created and then begin. If you do not wish to run this scan type the following load option:

LOAD F-PROT NoDailyScan

This load option will only work if there is no INI file. When FPN is first loaded the INI file does not exist.

Console Install

This procedure does not install the Windows program F-PROT Professional for NetWare Administration.

Insert diskette #1 of Command's F-PROT Professional for NetWare installation disks into drive A on the file server:

At the server console type:

LOAD A:SETUP [ENTER]

Note: There are two parameters you can add when using this procedure.

A. If you do not wish the install program to modify the server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file, then add a minus "A" at the end of the command. For example:

LOAD A:SETUP -A [ENTER]

B. By default a daily scan will be created and run when you first install FPN. If you do not want this scan to be created then enter the following:

LOAD A:SETUP -S [ENTER]

You may combine both the -A(utoexec) and the -S(can) when using the LOAD A:SETUP command. For Example: LOAD A:SETUP -S -A [ENTER]

Upon completion, you will see:

"F-PROT Professional for NetWare has been installed!"

Note: On NetWare 4.x servers, it is normal to see the following:

"The F-PROT.NLM nlm has registered a file system hook (x)"

You can toggle to the F-PROT screen from the server console using ALT + ESC These screens can be used to monitor F-PROT Professional for NetWare's status.

Managing a Domain of Servers using Command AntiVirus for NetWare Administrator

The first time you launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare Administrator, the program requests a "primary server" and displays a list of available servers running Command AntiVirus for NetWare. Before you can manage a domain of servers, a primary server must be selected. If Command AntiVirus is not installed to a server, proceed to the installation instructions before continuing.

Adding servers to the domain

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Click on the "Edit Domain List" button
• Select a server you want in the domain list and click [ Add -> ]
• When finished, click "OK"

Changing the primary server

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Click on the "Primary" button
• Select a server in the list you want as your primary server
• When chosen, click "OK"

Deploy updates to servers in the domain after updating the primary server

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Click on the "Deploy" menu option and select "CSAV for NetWare"
• Add servers you wish to update from the available list
• When finished, click "OK"

Viewing Real-Time Statistics Using Command AntiVirus for NetWare Administrator

Viewing real-time statistics

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Select a server you wish to see real-time statistics
• In the bottom of the application window will be an update of the real-time statistics
• Repeat this with additional servers to view their statistics

Resetting real-time statistics

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Select a server you wish to see real-time statistics
• Double-click on that server
• A dialogue will request "Do you want to clear the real-time statistics ?"
• Click "YES" to clear the statistics

Viewing the Log Report Using Command AntiVirus for NetWare Administrator

Command AntiVirus for NetWare stores the results or real-time, scheduled and manual scans to a log file on the NetWare server located in SYS:SYSTEM\F-PROT\F-PROT.LOG. The file is kept open by Command AntiVirus for NetWare when loaded and when unloaded, the log file closed. Command AntiVirus for NetWare Administrator has an icon that links to the view screen for this log file and each server in the domain list can maintain separate logs.

Viewing the log report

• Launch Command AntiVirus for NetWare
• Select the "View" menu option and select "Log File"
• Select a server in the drop-down list and click "OK"
• When finished, select the "View" menu option and select "Settings"

Determining the History of an Infected File Command AntiVirus for NetWare

Command AntiVirus for NetWare saves a copy of files quarantined, deleted or disinfected to the quarantine directory located in SYS:SYSTEM\F-PROT\QUARANT.INE. A history file tracks each file saved in the file F-PROT.HST located in SYS:SYSTEM\F-PROT\QUARANT.INE.

This history log is in ASCII format and can be viewed from the console by typing the following console command:

LOAD EDIT SYS:SYSTEM\F-PROT\QUARANT.INE\F-PROT.HST

Below is an example of the contents of a history file:

Command AntiVirus for NetWare has several options at load-time that are available and they can be run at the server console or RCONSOLE. Below is a listing of each of the options and their descriptions.

Command AntiVirus for NetWare has several console command line options which are run at the server console or RCONSOLE. To deinstall Command AntiVirus for NetWare run the following instructions:

• At the server console, type

  F-PROT UNLOAD PASSWORD

• Confirm the deinstall procedure by answering "Y"
• Enter the password for Command AntiVirus for NetWare; default is "password"
• Confirm the deinstall procedure again by answering "Y"
• After the deinstallation has finished, a confirmation message will be displayed on the server's console screen
